PERFORMANCE COACHING

Do you want more than just success in fitness?

What about the other areas of your life?

There is one missing ingredient which successful people have and which un successful people do not. That is a positive philosophy!

A positive philosophy = positive actions = positive outcome.

Clearly this is applicable to fitness but it is also applicable to other areas of your life.

Master your fitness... Master your life. The reason we start with fitness is because with out your health you have nothing! It does not matter how successful you are with money and relationships, if you are to ill to enjoy them it will have all been for nothing!

Performance coaching is for the person who wants to seriously upgrade themselves in all aspects of their life. There are several things that we need to be happy and content in life and with performance coaching we will be discussing all of them.

- Finances
- Health
- Business
- Personal Development
- Relationships

Getting started with your TRAINING

A good training programme is tailored to the specific needs of the person, my programmes are designed for beginner to intermediate athletes who are looking to compliment their current skill based training sessions with all round improvements in strength, fitness, robustness and power development.

This articles describes what you need to consider when you begin training and the when building the 'perfect programme'... if one existed!

Before we discuss the 'perfect programme', there is one thing above all that need to be addressed...

The Right Mindset

Whatever your goal... sporting excellence, losing body fat, gaining muscle... the real difference between achieving your goals and failing is mindset.

Do you really want to win?

Are you prepared to do what it takes?

Do you believe you can do it?

Before you even started with the programme, we need to get the mindset right. If the mindset is not there, it does not matter what advice or programme I give you there is no way your going to get to where you want to go.

If there is a small part of you that wants something, you have the ability to amplify it and use it.

It can be difficult to get the right mindset on your own, my job as a coach will be to help you overcome your doubts, even if you do not think you are able to.

'Soon ripe soon rotten'

You may have heard this phrase before but, what does this actually mean?

Remember when you were new to training? (or maybe you are new) Often we get results very quickly, but soon after we stop seeing these gains, we lose hope and stop what were are doing for a week or so, then before you know it, we are back to square one. We become fed up and and eventually you give up on training or start the whole process again.

The point is, the quicker you try and get there, the quicker you will lose it.

You need a solid foundation of health, fitness and nutrition before you can start serious power and strength training.

MORE POWER!

Power, the ability to move a weight over a distance quickly, there are not many sports or activities which do not involve or need power.

From a elite sprinter to a mother moving her child from harms way. We all need power. Ok chess, that does not require a lot of physical power, but everything else requires power.

Nutiriton

If you are looking for serious upgrades and to get as much 'bang for your buck' during your programme, you best start taking a look at nutrition, because a good programme is only going to do about half a job.

Improving your nutrition, does not need to be as complicated as tracking macros or counting specific calories, but the basics need to be taken care of to stop illness, fatigue and improve recovery.

If you become ill during your training, no amount of programming is going to help you!

Components of a programme

A well rounded programme for improving general performance needs to focus on various elements to ensure that an athlete does not excel in one particular area, to the detriment of another. Clearly this depends on your particular sport to a degree. The 'perfect programme' would include the following:
  • Strength training
  • Power training at high and low intestines
  • Endurance, of both strength, power, speed and aerobic
  • Robustness training
    • Mobility
    • Stability
    • Muscle Activation

So what makes an EPIC training programme?

Periodisation
  • Plan the whole year out
    • Im not selling a get quick fit scheme here, but a sustained methodical approach which will get you results you want and give you long term health and performance increases.
    • If you are competing, then you want to be building up to your maximum performance around the time of the competition.
    • Schedule in periods of rest, even if you are not competing, but still want an awesome programme, it is still a good idea to work on different things at different points in the year.
    • Plan you rest around holidays or events where you know that you are unlikely to have all the facilities that you would normally have. Rest will help you build strength and recover in the long run.
  • Begin your programming by building strength, endurance and work capacity, especially if you are a beginner.
    • If you have found this article and you are a beginner, congratulations, you now know lots of things that most people did not know when they started out training!
    • The first phase of training can last approximately 12 weeks and will be your physical foundation, which you will build upon.
    • It is common for most of us to start training with the latest 'get strong quick' programme, sure they probably work, but 'soon ripe , soon rotten'.

Foundation Phase Weeks 1-12 (£49.99)

Strength training Weeks 12-20 (£49.99)

Power training Weeks 20-29 (£49.99)

Total Programme Weeks 1-29 (£129.99)

  • Next phase focus on strength training.
    • Now we have a base to work on, we can get stronger.
    • During this phase we are not trying to bulk out, but improve your ability to apply force, in proportion to our weight.
    • This phase of training will have the emphasis on improving strength, but also work capacity and conditioning.
    • Most will reach peak strength, after roughly 9 weeks. Then it will be time to test your strength with some big 1xRMs, or enter your competition/event.
  • Power training
    • During this phase we are focused on improving power!
    • Power can be improved at both high and low intensities, so there will be a variety of different exercises to do this.
Having said and done all of that, it can be pretty hard work getting this right and then keeping yourself accountable. The ultimate solution would be to hire a coach, someone who can get you in the right mindset, address your health and nutrition, then keep you accountable throughout the training programme.

Online coaching can be a significantly more cost effective method of getting the results you need than employing a in person coach.
