KEEPING SKI FIT

7/10/2017

Comments

If you have been skiing before you probably do what most of us do, hop on the slopes in the morning... ski all day, stop for lunch, get back in the late afternoon and then 'apres-ski' for the evening, which so far as I can tell means drinking lots of booze!

No doubt some of you come back from your ski trip pretty sore and achy!

If you have ever picked up an injury while you are away on your ski holiday, you know only too well how much the rest of your trip is going to suck!

do we need to train the 'Core'?

17/7/2017

Comments

So the quick answer is YES we do need to train the 'core' but most of us go about it the wrong way and probably don't really know what 'the core' really consists of.

The majority of training regimes focus purely on the visible muscle groups, a hangover from the bodybuilding revolution that shapes the traditional commercial gym...

Why I am a nerd...

1/6/2017

Comments

So as some of you know I am a big fan of all things muscle related, I can also be a bit of a nerd when it comes to lifting or moving with proper technique and general stretching/mobilising muscles. The main reason for this nerdiness is that I have injured myself many, many times before, doing things which I do not think should have injured me! I am also a big believer that everyday life should not be painful, no one should have to live with a constant shoulder/back/ hip/other pain which is constantly niggling away at your happiness! Or more importantly your ability to workout!

Now I am a coach I get to look at people moving all day (in a non-creepy way...) I am constantly correcting clients form, so they stay safe while they train with me, this is crucial, as is video analysis for my online clients, commenting on their form and technique. There would be nothing worse than injuring once of my own clients, or they injure themselves from something I have asked them to do!

Please stop dieting

Amazingly it is still common for you lot to put yourself on a 'diet'! Why???

Be it a low- calorie diet or dismissing particular food groups ‘no-carbs’ there really is no need, yes it might actually work in the short term and you probably end up losing ‘weight’, but when you consider that muscle weighs 4 times as much as fat, losing ‘weight’ was probably not your real goal.... was it?

Your diet is what you eat on a daily basis.

Picture
With more than £10million spent annually on diet products in the UK each year, losing weight is big business, the majority of diet products have an adverse effect on health without delivering any long-term benefits.

It is true that losing fat will require a calorie deficit, however if you follow a low calorie ‘diet’, the body can enter ‘starvation mode’, this is an evolutionary adaption from when food was sometimes scarce. The body is pretty clever and knows that in order to survive this period of food scarcity it will need to store energy, so prioritises the most energy rich reserves to sustain itself
