With more than £10million spent annually on diet products in the UK each year, losing weight is big business, the majority of diet products have an adverse effect on health without delivering any long-term benefits.
It is true that losing fat will require a calorie deficit, however if you follow a low calorie ‘diet’, the body can enter ‘starvation mode’, this is an evolutionary adaption from when food was sometimes scarce. The body is pretty clever and knows that in order to survive this period of food scarcity it will need to store energy, so prioritises the most energy rich reserves to sustain itself
The most energy rich reserves happen to be fat. Fat is slow burning and lasts a long time, the body can store a lot of it, as you may already be aware!
When the body enters 'starvation mode', the first thing to be used up for energy is muscle, (which as mentioned before), weighs four times as much as fat. Therefore, weight will indeed be lost on a ‘low calorie diet’, but muscle mass will be lost as well as fat.
But as soon as normal eating resumes, the fat will start to build again, probably at a faster rate because now that person has less muscle, therefore less calories are being used when at rest. They would also be pretty weak!
The bottom line is that dieting is a downward spiral. ‘fad diets’ do not work in the long term and can be detrimental to health.
A good piece of advice it to avoid anyone or anything which suggests you go ‘low fat’ or ‘low calorie’. People desperate in the quest to lose fat often turn to the quick and easy fixes like the use of fat burning pills, lotions which ‘dissolve fat’, even ingesting parasites!
WITHIN 5 YEARS 95% OF ‘DIETERS’ WILL HAVE PUT THE 'WEIGHT' BACK ON AND MOST WILL BE IN A WORSE HEALTH CONDITION THAN WHEN THEY STARTED!
There is no need to diet! When we use the word diet it is referring to what you eat on a daily basis.
You never need to go on a ‘diet’ again.
Daily habits are what will burn the fat and keep it off in the long run whilst keeping you healthy!
I could keep going on about this for a long time, better to post any diet related questions below or email me. By the way if you start online coaching with us there will be no diet!
